BU Sweeps Shippensburg in Softball

BLOOMSBURG-- Bloomsburg University completed a weekend sweep of games with a doubleheader win over Shippensburg University on Saturday by scores of 2-0 and 8-2.
In the opener, Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) allowed just two hits and struck out five to lead the Huskies to the win. Offensively Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) went 3-3 and Lori Neyhard (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) drove in one run with the other run scoring on an error on her hit in the third inning. From there Lynn took control and did not allow any hits over the final four innings.
In game two, the Huskies took a 2-0 lead in the second with Jess Rosin (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) and Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Southern Columbia) getting RBI hits in the inning. Shippensburg tied the score in the top of the sixth when Hope Cornell hit a two-run homer off Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport).
The Bloomsburg bats, though, came alive in the bottom of the sixth as the Huskies scored six times in the inning to break open a close game. Jenna Hampton (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) had a bases loaded double which scored three runs and gave the Huskies an 8-2 lead.
Hampton finished game two 3-4 with three RBI, while Shiko was 2-2 with an RBI and run scored.
Bloomsburg improves to 38-7, 13-5 in the PSAC East, while Shippensburg falls to 26-20, 9-9 in the PSAC East. The Huskies visit Mansfield on Tuesday starting at 2:30 p.m.
